A FANTASTIC, FESTIVE FEAST FOR THE EYES & EARS
I have to admit feeling a bit taken aback by the TONIC, as
I entered it's somewhat foreboding narrow, high ceilinged,
hi-tech alien landscape. I'll just say I got the feeling that
original live music isn't exactly the first item on the agenda
at this venue. But once I put my apprehension to rest, the
show this Friday night was a fantastic, festive feast for
the eyes and ears!
Orchards & Vines put together a potent brew of psychedelic
pop and roll, and it was given the full treatment this evening.
The light show only added to their inventive, swirling and
expansive music, with visions of clouds floating by at freaky
speeds and about every color and shade of eye-teasing, psychedelic
imagery you could possibly imagine. The addition of a cello,
among the barrage of guitar, bass, drums and haunting vocals,
definitely took the music to another plane, twisting and turning
my psyche in a most pleasurable and contenting manner. To
say the least, O&V take you on a most trippy journey. It's
very much an outworldly experience. Once you sit back, relax
and let your imagination run wild, O&V take you to another
planet... another place, where strong, haunting melodies fill
your ears with endless, delightful, sonic ear-candy!
As my lady friend and I succumbed to this addictive and enchanting
muse, we were taking great pleasure in attempting to describe
their sound and where it comes from. It's definitely influenced
by some of the best English psychedelic upstarts of the 60's,
and the early 90's. But it wasn't so easily pigeonholed. I
also hear shades of Grace Slick in lead singer Cindy Tomlinson's
vocals. Also duly noted was Nico from the Velvet Underground.
But, you know what? It's much better to actually go to their
next show to truly take in the full effect of their amazing
music. Get O&V's latest live dates at their official website
at www.ovweb.com
... feed your ears!!
