Translink has to lift its crippling 1:20am curfew on
Weekdays and Saturdays (12:20 on Sundays and Holidays).
It's just plain rediculous to us live music fans, especially
the ones who live in the suburbs, to be having to watch
the clock every time we're at a live music show, so
we don't miss THE LAST TRAIN TO CLARKSVILLE! We can't
affford to live in Vancouver in its overpriced, run
down dives they call accomodations. We've been pushed
out and are dead tired of being treated like third-class
citizens just because we choose not to drive or pay
more rent for run-down places in the eastside. We really
don't see what all the fuss is about having the skytrain
run "on the hour" after the curfew. The skytrain is
run by computer----there's no driver. Having the skytrain
run "on the hour" after the 1:20 curfew would help immensely.
People wouldn't be stranded and give you an earful because
you won't offer them alternate transportation to get
back home. This would have positive economic spin-offs
for the local economy. People would stay at the live
music venues later. Taxi drivers would have more passengers
later at night along the skytrain corridor. So enough
about it cutting into the taxi drivers' bottom line.
If Coast Mountain Buses & Translink would offer a dependable
and efficient service to their paying customers, then
it would remove at least one unessessary irritant from
people's lives. Show some common sense and give the
people a system that works for them and not just the
precious few who don't even use it. It's time the people
got on this full bore! It's not going to take care of
itself! Contact Translink and City Hall and explain
to them in a most clear and civilized manner how these
changes would make for a more enjoyable experience and
create positive spin-offs for the immediate community.
